The key components of self-regulation are:
• Trustworthiness and integrity
• Adaptability and flexibility
• Conscientiousness
• Optimism
• Self-control
• The ability to manage our emotional state, when it serves you to do so

Note that it doesn’t always serve us to manage our emotions – we need to accept them and embrace them. Only sometimes are there pressing priorities that our emotions hinder.

Managers, professionals, and leaders who can regulate their emotions:
• Make better decisions

• Maintain stronger positive motivation
• Stick more closely to their values
• Perform better in solving problems and getting things done

Practice recognizing your triggers and deliberately remaining calm. Try:
• Deep breathing
• Stepping away for a moment
• Stating your emotion, rather than letting it dominate

The ABC Model
• Activating event is the trigger
• Beliefs you hold lead to your interpretation – which has
• Consequences for how you respond
So, examine your belief and interpretations.

The SCOPE Process
Stope, Clarify, Options, Proceed, Evaluate
