Leadership is the process of influencing one or more people, so they will achieve a goal.
Themes and Components of Leadership
These include:
• The social context
• interpersonal processes
• setting and achieving goals
• building confidence, optimism, and hope
• influencing, inspiring, and motivating
• empowering, delegating, and developing
• making decisions that affect others
Levels of Leadership
1. Organizational

3. Team
Models of Leadership
We see leadership in terms of:
• Traits and qualities

• Attitudes
…how leaders think
• Behaviors
…what leaders do
• Styles and approaches
…how leaders do it
• Roles and functions
…what they need to achieve
RECOMMENDED EXERCISE
1. What is your own definition of leadership? Start with aspects of and then try to craft your own defining statement. (3 MC CPD Points)
2. What levels of leadership do you see around you at work? How does each operate, and what are its particular challenges? (4 MC CPD Points)
3. Why do we need leaders? What is your answer to this, in your context? (2 MC CPD Points)
