How to Say NO: Noble Objection - the Ultimate in Time Management

What do you do when all other time management methods fail you? You have too much to do. You need to say 'no'. You need to make a Noble Objection. But it's not so simple. So, I'll show you how to say NO properly - and make it a positive response. Watching this video is worth 2 Management Courses CPD Points*. And that means saying ‘no’ to yourself and to others. But saying no is hard. It feels negative, people don’t like it, and it removes the chance to do something and succeed. Be prepared to say ‘NO’ to the right things These are things that do not contribute enough. If you were to do them, then they would limit your ability to focus on things that matter more. When you say NO for the right reasons, and in a courteous and respectful way, this is not negative at all. It is a Noble Objection. How do you make a Noble Objection and say NO? Evaluate your Choice Which is right: Yes or a NO? Ask questions and test the possible outcomes to see which is right. Clear, Calm, Confident, Courteous You may want to apologize. That’s fine, but express regret for the impact it has on the other person, not for your choice. Never a Naked NO Always clothe your NO in a ‘because’. People accept a NO more easily when they know there's a good reason. If your reasoning is flawed, they can ask you to reconsider. Where you can, make helpful suggestions. RECOMMENDED EXERCISE ====================== 1. What things could you have said NO to in the last few weeks? (2 MC CPD Point) 2. Reflect on a few examples. Imagine them happening again. How will you make your Noble Objection next time? (2 MC CPD Points) 3. Next time someone asks you to do something you know you shouldn't really do, say NO; make a Noble Objection. (2 MC CPD Points) 4. Afterwards, evaluate your NO. How dd it feel? How effective way it? What can you learn for next time?
