NLP Change Work: How Does NLP Go about Changing People?

The biggest claims that NLP practitioners make are that NLP has a toolkit of methods for helping people to change. This includes things like lack of confidence, uncertainty about decisions, stress, and anxiety. So, what is the basic approach? Watching this video is worth 2 Management Courses CPD Points*. 🔎 See below for details NLP This video is part of course module 2.9.3 Program 2: Manager as Communicator Course 9: NLP Section 3: Changing People Dr Mike Clayton has been an NLP Master Practitioner since 2003. It – and others in this series – should not be taken as representing any form of training for therapeutic interventions. The underlying principle NLP adopts for creating change is simple. The practitioner needs to understand their client’s present state then move them to a desired, more resourceful state (a new map of their world). Six steps: 1. Desired Outcome Understand what change the client wants to make. They will help the client to set ‘well-formed outcome’ – statements of the desired state, which form a sound basis to work towards. 2. Model of the World Understand the client's current model of the world. 3. Loosen the Model Undermine the undesirable aspects of the client’s model of the world. 4. Change Work The primary therapeutic interventions that create the change. 5. Clean-Up Integrating the changes into the client's whole way of being in a way that is fully congruent. It’s also a way of catching any minor changes that have not happened and can be effected in the session. 6. Future Pace Help the client to see themselves in their new state and to project it forward into the kinds of situations where they would have either shown undesired behaviors or attitudes, or not felt they had the resources to cope. This is about giving them the confidence that the changes are real.
