Four Special Meeting Types and How to Run Them

There are 'normal ' meetings. And there are some special meeting types. And in this video, we'll look at four types of special meetings: 1. Morning stand-ups (or roll-call meetings) 2. Working Group meetings 3. Ideas generation (or creative meetings) 4. Decision-making And I'll give you my best tips for how to run each of these special meeting types. Watching this video is worth 4 Management Courses CPD Points*. Ask, What... - did you do yesterday that helped us meet our goal? - will you do today to help us meet our goal? - impediment that prevents you or us from meeting our goal? - did you learn yesterday?’ Working Group Meetings --------------------------------------- Set the agenda at the very start of the meeting Adapt it to the priorities of the people attending Take items in priority order Close promptly with a quick agreement on handling the lower priority items you weren't able to cover Ideas-generation Meetings (Brainstorming / Creative Meetings) ------------------------------------------ Brainstorming is not a great technique So make use of reflecting, writing, clustering, and discussing, to get the best from your participants Decision-making Meetings ------------------------------------------ Be clear about what decision you need to make For each option: - Get the facts out first - Clarify and seek observations before asking for opinions - Assess the option and then move onto the next option Compare options Create a decision RECOMMENDED EXERCISE ====================== 1. Review your experience of meetings of each of these four types. What can you learn from your experiences of either attending or facilitating those meetings? (2 MC CPD Points) 2. Look in your diary for meetings where you can practice one of these four special meeting types. Prepare for them carefully. (2 MC CPD Points) 3.
