=============
The metaphor of a monkey on your back comes from William OnckenJr.
You can read about it in the book, The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey -
Oncken's four rules for Monkey Management:
What?
Rule 1: Describe the Monkey
The next move
Who?
Rule 2: Assign an Owner
Lowest level
How?
Rule 3: Take out Insurance
Levels of Authority
What if?
Rule 4: Check up on the Monkey
You still have some responsibility
RECOMMENDED EXERCISE
======================
1. Review all of the work you have on at the moment. How many of other people's monkeys do you have on your desk? (1 MC CPD Point)
2. It's time to get those other people's monkeys off your desk. Retrospectively, apply the rules of monkey management. For each one, decide the next step and who the owner should have been. Then, go find them and brief them. Get back in control. (4 MC CPD Points)
3. Next time someone approaches you with a monkey on their back, before you find yourself saying 'leave it with me'... Stop! Now's the time to practice monkey management (2 MC CPD Points)
