In the previous video, I described how NLP modeling works. Perhaps the most famous example is the Disney Creativity Strategy. It was modeled on Walt Disney’s approach to creative planning or problem-solving.

🎬 NLP Modelling: What is it, and How to Do it?
LESSON NOTES
Walt Disney would look at a problem from three perspectives:
• The Dreamer
The person who creates new possibilities and to whom everything is possible. The dreamer asks: ‘what do I want?’
• The Realist
The person who plans, organizes, and evaluates. They are constructive and ask: ‘how can I make this dream a reality?’
• The Critic
The person who challenges a plan, spots problems, and sees risks. They value safety and certainty, and ask: ‘what could go wrong?’
Create three spaces in the room – one for each to occupy. Then, step into each one in turn.
When you are there, think of a time when you were, depending on the space:
• highly creative and inspired (the Dreamer)
• constructive and rational (the Realist)
• cautious and perceptive (the critic)
Conjure up images, sounds and feelings to make the experience as real as possible. Then, when you have associated the sensations to the space, step away. Move about a bit, and then step into the next space.
Now, to creatively plan a solution to achieve what you want:
1. Step into the Dreamer Space
Associate with your Dreamer State
Think wildly and creatively, Visualize all sorts of possibilities and write down all your crazy ideas.
2. Step away and move about a bit.
3. Step into the Realist Space
Associate with your Realist State
Think about your crazy ideas. Organize and prioritize them. Think about the outline plans that could make them a reality.
How could you make them happen? What steps would you take and what resources would you need?
4. Step away and move about a bit.
5. Step into the Critic Space
Associate with your Critic State
Think about your plans. How sound are they? What is missing? What could go wrong? How can you make the plan even better and more robust?
6. Step away and move about a bit.
7. Step back into the Dreamer Space
Associate with your Dreamer State again
Reflect on the contributions of your Realist and Critic States. What new possibilities can you identify?
8. Keep cycling through the three positions until you are confident that you have a sound plan that you want to follow and feel you can achieve.
