In this video, I want to answer the question, what is SaaS: Software as a Service?
Watching this video is worth 5 Management Courses CPD Points.
LESSON NOTES
============
Software as a Service, or SaaS, is a method of licensing, charging for, and delivering software to users.
SaaS is a software distribution model in which a provider hosts the software and makes it available to customers over the Internet. The provider takes responsibility for maintaining it, in exchange for a regular (usually monthly or annual) payment stream. For commercial software, they usually offer a service level agreement (SLA).
SaaS is also known as ‘hosted software’, ‘cloud computing’, or ‘on-demand software’.
The user gets the service, and updates to the software that keep it robust and relevant. They receive service standards that their business can rely upon, in exchange for a predictable flow of expenditure.
SaaS Contracts
• The user buys the service on a subscription basis
• Subscription costs linked to user numbers and levels of service or functionality
• Easy up-scaling. The user just extends its license when it needs more users
• The provider maintains the software and updates it
• The user does not need dedicated hardware or infrastructure
• There are no additional fees for support, maintenance, or upgrades
• The user and provider agree service levels
PaaS Stands for Platform as a Service
A remote platform that businesses can use to develop and deploy software on.
IaaS stands for Infrastructure as a Service
IaaS offers the core computing resources that a business needs.
Risks
• Data Ownership
• Data Security
• Data Location
• Provider Stability
• Provider Actions
• Business-oriented technical questions
